…is it a Bunny or an Egg… well, it started as a crochet bunny and when I’ve finished it, standing upright it looked quite like a an egg…with ears. So, this crochet Bunny is a quick little creation for Easter, bunny and egg rolled in one, perfect!
It’s such a quick & lovely little crochet project, made with a yummy, leftover chunky yarn and goes nicely with the colours of all the beautiful blooms around.
Spring is a magical time of the year, with all the flowers, greenery and warming sunny days. Just like this passed weekend. I’ve quickly went to the attic and the summer clothes came out, washing drying on the line in the garden, first barbeque, kids cooling down with the sprinklers on. The big woolly jumpers and warm socks came back on, ones the sun hid behind the rooftops later on.
The yarn I’ve used is Red heart grande and size 9 hook.
Start with a chain of 11 stitches and slip stitch to make a circle.
- Chain one, double crochet (dc) into the first stitch and all the following ones (11dc) to make continuous rounds, you can use a stitch marker, make 7 rows, 8th row – (dc in two stitches and join the next two) , three times – now you have 8dc. 9th row – repeat, dc in two stitches, join next two, now you have 6dc. Body is finished and for the ears, always chain one at the beginning, make dc in next three stitches, turn, make five rows. 6th row – chain one, 1dc and join two dc, turn chain one and join two dc, cut your yarn, pull through and finish the first ear.
For the second ear, you join the yarn right next to the first one and repeat the pattern.
To finish your chunky bunny, weave the yarn ends and now you can decide, how would you like to use your lovely crochet bunny or egg. Because it’s made from a gorgeous chunky yarn, it can just stand on it’s own as a decoration, you could also hide a chocolate egg inside, which I think is the best option or, stuff the body , add a little lavender inside and sew the base, to create an lovely squishy and wonderfully smelling cuddly toy.
I have a big collection of colourful ribbons from home, Slovakia, so I’ve added a bow, to make my rabbit look more traditional. You could use flowers, pompoms, or ribbons for decoration and then it’s ready for Easter!
I hope you are inspired, if you make the bunny or egg with ears, let me know on my Instagram page.
Have a beautiful Easter Holidays !
