To be honest, I’m not very experienced at sewing, yet, but I have so many ideas, as we all do, for so many simple and easy projects. Today I want to show you my new, very easy lamp shades I’ve made for my two lovely table lamps I bought in ikea quite few years back.
I’ve decided to try and make new lamp shades, because the old ones started to peel away from its frames. So I started thinking about the way I could make my own new lamp shades from a different material, as the old ones where just white.
I just would like to say, that I’m really pleased with my two new lamps now, they both have a bit of pink and lace, which goes lovely with the silver simple stand.
The heart shade lamp is in my girls room and I’ve also made a bunting to go with it, using the same heart cotton combined with flowery one, it looks great on the book shelve and girls love them. Now they are thinking about new projects for mummy to make.
The other lamp is in our bedroom on my side table and I’m already thinking about making a small table cover from the same materials. Here I’ve used pink cotton with tiny white polka dots combined with plain beige linen and a white lace.
I have to say, before I had my gorgeous twin girls, I’ve never really had much pink in my wardrobe or in the house, but how things change, I do love different shades of pink now, especially combined with white and grey. And as I’m looking on my blog, it’s very pink indeed!
I’m sorry I didn’t take photos of the way I made the lamp shades. I think I’ve concentrated hard at sewing and cutting and not making any mistakes, that I’ve forgotten to take photos of the steps how to make the lamp shades. I clearly have lot’s to learn about making posts for my blog. I will remember to have my camera at hand from now on.
I’ve just measured the hight of the lamp frame and added few centimetres on bottom and top. I cut out a rectangle shape, sew two tunnels for the elastic and sew it together in a circle. Put the elastic in, on the top it’s tighter, bigger on the bottom side and tried it on the frame before sewing it. After both elastics are in you just gently pull it over the lamp frame and adjusted it. On the lamp made with hearts cotton I added a white lace and tied it in a bow, just love how girly and fun it looks.
If you would like a more detailed tutorial, please let me know in the messages below or in my emails and would have a go at explaining it more in detail.
I would love to here from you and if you have made lamp shades yourself, how did you make them, always like to see different ways of doing things and learning something new.
Thank you for stopping by and have a fun day,
